Community Service

We serve Rutgers by serving others.

Rutgers Alumni Association hosts Rutgers University in your back yard.

How We Make An Impact

Spreading and increasing the impact of Rutgers University to surrounding communities, groups and individuals is a large order. The committee acknowledges the diversity of those needs and tailor programs on an ongoing basis. They meet monthly in order to plan upcoming events, review prior efforts and better understand emerging needs. With years of experience on the committee, they’ve built some annual events listed below:

Rutgers In Your Backyard

Rutgers In Your Backyard is a program designed to bring students on campus whom otherwise may never get the chance to interact with Rutgers. Some previous middle schools that we hosted for this event were located a mere 15 miles from campus.

Annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive

The Community Services Committee’s support for the Jersey Cares Annual Coat drive was established over 8 years ago. The committee collects new and gently used coats that are organized and distributed via Jersey Cares, a 501(c)3.

RUTGERS AGAINST HUNGER

Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) is a university-wide initiative working to address the issues of hunger across the state of New Jersey. By bringing together the resources of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, RAH works to increase awareness of hunger, encourage advocacy and service to tackle hunger, stimulate research to assist those in need, and provide immediate relief through food drives and other events to raise money and collect food. Through RAH, the committee’s efforts have spread to the Rutgers Student Food Pantry.
