Center for Adult Autism Services offers Support, Training

By Alicia Parr RC’81

As part of its spring 2025 calendar of events, Rutgers Alumni Association coordinated a visit to the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS). Facilitated by Dr. Christopher Manente, founding Executive Director of the RCAAS, Rutgers Neurodiversity Taskforce Chair and three-time Rutgers alumnus, RAA members toured the facilities and attended an engaging and informative presentation.

The RCAAS, located at 100 Dudley Road in New Brunswick:

  • Exists to address the critical lack of opportunities for autistic and other neurodivergent people.
  • Offers adults on the autism spectrum one-of-a-kind support programs.
  • Advances research related to pressing issues facing neurodivergent adults.
  • Ensures that each year a new cohort of Rutgers graduates leaves our university highly trained to enter careers in support of this underserved population

The center is staffed by a highly experienced senior team of faculty and staff and Rutgers students in training from a variety of academic disciplines. Its programs provide the support needed to enable full integration into the Rutgers campus and the surrounding community. From vocational training to academic support, social support, and clinical services, the center equips those it serves with the tools needed to enhance and maintain autonomy. The RCAAS has four distinct, yet collaborative, units that serve autistic and other neurodivergent adults with very diverse support needs ranging from academically gifted Rutgers University college students to individuals with the most significant/complex treatment needs:

  • Supporting Community Access through Leisure and Employment (SCALE)
  • Rutgers College Support Program (CSP)
  • Psychological Services Clinic (PSC)
  • Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC)

Due to the popularity of this event, the RAA has arranged another tour/presentation at the RCAAS to be held May 7, 2026.
