More than 100 people turned out for the Rutgers Engineering
Society's first annual Symposium on Alternative Energy. The Feb. 16th event, held on
Busch Campus, featured lectures on new bioenergy technologies, new electric vehicles, and power plant CO2 capture and
abatement.
A unique employment exploration program led by a panel of esteemed experts in the field. Join us on Wednesday January 27th at 6:30pm at the Alexander Library Scholarly Communication Center (4th floor). Cost is $10 per person. Space is limited and you must register by Jan. 20th.

Some 65 Rutgers alumni and their guests were treated on Oct. 4 to an enjoyable afternoon of artwork and jazz on the New Brunswick campus. The group was taken on a tour of Zimmerli Art Museum's "Blocks of Color: American Woodcuts" exhibit, featuring a fascinating and rare collection of more than 100 prints reflecting the impact of Japanese color prints on American artists working in the woodcut medium beginning in the late 19th Century. The afternoon concluded with a jazz performance by Art Lillard's On Time Quartet.

When Class of '69 alumni gathered recently for their 40th reunion, they were without one of their most distinguished members. He is Dr. Steven Ostro, a senior research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, who created the field of asteroid radar astronomy that has allowed scientists to not only measure the orbits of near-earth asteroids with exquisite precision, but provide images of astounding resolution and beauty. Ostro died last December of pneumonia after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Since retiring 10 years ago, Charles "Chip" Churchill RC '59 has staged a strong "second act." Along with wife Dorothy, he re-enacts before historical groups the life of a colorful Revolutionary War ancestor, in addition to his ongoing role as president of the Rutgers Regional Club of Sarasota/Manatee (Florida). Chip's next performance will take place on May 15th when he's inducted into the Rutgers Old Guard with classmates at their 50th anniversary reunion.

The 11 inductees join the more than 500 alumni who have been recognized over the 51-year history of the Loyal Sons & Daughters Award.
